Results: Jonathan Larsson emerges as new MTFL middleweight champ

The years first Muay Thai for Life event sure was a good one, with one of the strongest cards ever put on! The results from MTFL 11 saw a new champion crowned, a contender put forth and a fan favorite return – amongst other things.

The vacant middleweight title was on the line in the main event as MTFL mainstay and record holder for most wins; Jonathan Larsson, faced off against Spanish champion José Manuel Hita. While Hita was incredibly well-credentialled and highly experienced, Larsson executed a masterful gameplan – constantly making the first move and firing off brutal combinations.

Larsson also opened up a grizzly cut under his opponents right eye, but the fight was allowed to continue. After five full rounds Larsson stood as the clear victor – and now the reigning middleweight champion.

The co-main event saw a heated Nordic rematch between Sweden’s Dalian Dawody and Oliver Hansen of Norway. In the 2021 European championships it was Hansen who got the win and now they were due for a rematch as pros.

Hansen pulled away early with Dawody working his way into the fight midway throughout. The last few rounds were close, leaving the fans on the edge of their seats. Ultimately Dawody would get a split decision from the judges, landing him a two fight winning streak in MTFL.

“The Peoples Main Event” would see the return of exciting fan favorite Nasim Kazem as he battled the surging Sam Wingqvist. Kazem hadn’t competed in Sweden since MTFL 7 last year, but the wait was worth it. Kazem set the tone early, pressing forward with vicious combinations. Wingqvist fired back and applied a leg kick heavy counter offence and took hard shots with impressive resilience.

At the end Kazem emerged victorious via a clear-cut unanimous decision, getting him back into the win column.

In other noteworthy performances Giang Hoang and Lucas Porst put on a thrilling fight, with Porst getting the win, Lisa Melin Johansson improved to 3-1 in MTFL after a split decision win over Emilia Koivisto – and now holds the record for most women’s fights in MTFL history.

Christopher Watkins lived up to the hype in his MTFL debut, bulldozing Dennis Jacobsen and getting the finish between rounds four and five. Lina Saad put on a stellar performance in his second MTFL showing, besting Luna Källström, Marwin Svensson got the win after a thoroughly entertaining scrap with Rocky-Sten Munsi and Lucas Kano emerged as an amateur lightweight to watch as he handed Alexander Börjesson his first defeat.
